It's a Wonderful Lifeis an American Christmas drama film produced and directed by Frank Capra. It was based on the short story "The Greatest Gift", written by Philip Van Doren Stern. The movie was released in 1946 and stars James Stewart as George Bailey, a man whose imminent suicide on Christmas Eve brings about the intervention of his guardian angel, Clarence Odbody (Henry Travers). Clarence shows George all the lives he has touched and how different life in his community would be had he never been born. It's a Wonderful Lifewas nominated for five Oscars without winning any. The American Film Institute placed it number one on its list of the most inspirational American films of all time.

It's a Wonderful Lifewas initially considered a box office flop due to high production costs and stiff competition. However, the film has come to be regarded as a classic and is a staple of Christmas television around the world. Timemagazine said, "It's a Wonderful Lifeis a pretty wonderful movie….Director Capra's inventiveness, humor and affection for human beings keep it glowing with life and excitement." In 1990, the movie was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in their National Film Registry. In 2002, Britain's Channel 4 ranked It's a Wonderful Lifeas the seventh greatest film ever made.

Film: Perks of being a wallflower

Tuesday

To be nobody but yourself in a world that's doing its best to make you somebody else, is to fight the hardest battle you are ever going to fight.
Never stop fighting.

EE Cummings

Perks of being a Wallflower

What is a "wallflower"?
What are the pros/cons with being a wallflower?

There are many life lessons in this story. Could you name at least one?

Would you be friends with Charlie? Why/Why not?

Stephen Chbosky said he wanted to make a story in which none of the characters was a bad person. Was he successful?

Why do really great people let themselves be treated badly?

vecka 34

Friday - welcome back!

Book reading

Author: Sophie McKenzie

McKenzie grew up in London, and became a journalist after university. After being made redundant from her job in 2003, she started a year long 'Writing for Children course' at the City Literary Institute in London. She finished her first novel, 'Girl, Missing' at the beginning of 2005, it was then published by Simon & Schuster Children's Books in 2006.

The purpose of the book description or blurb is to grab the reader’s attention. You want to entice them to buy your book, but you don’t want to tell them the whole plot and certainly don’t want to spoil the end.  A well-written blurb can be the deciding factor on whether the reader purchases your book so definitely spend some time perfecting your copy.

First paragraph: Introduce your character and the setting. Or open by building the overall plot and setting.

Second paragraph: Set the mood and the conflict. In other words, delve a little deeper into the plot.

Third paragraph: Steer toward the resolution (Remember to hint at it and not give it away.) Leave the reader wanting more.

Task:
Frågehäfte sid 4-8
Diskutera de första frågorna
Läs första kapitlet tillsammans
Försök svara på frågorna till kapitlet
